Interactive museum trails

Make the collection part of the adventure.

RÆDEL turns objects, galleries, interpretation and hidden details into interactive museum trails that give visitors a reason to look closer, move through the museum and uncover the story for themselves.

Digital trails that point back to the collection

The screen gives visitors
a reason to look up.

A museum digital trail works best when the answer is not simply on the phone. RÆDEL can send visitors back to the real collection: identify a symbol, compare two objects, inspect a portrait, notice a date, follow a character or use interpretation to solve the next part of the story.

Object led discovery

Look closer

Make artefacts and displays part of the mechanics so observation becomes a meaningful part of progression.

Story led interpretation

Give context a purpose

Characters, clues and story beats can turn historical context into something visitors actively use rather than passively read.

Puzzles rooted in place

Earn the reveal

Questions, ordering, logic, collection and interactive challenges can use evidence found around the gallery.

One possible museum adventure

Turn a gallery visit into an investigation.

Imagine a family entering a gallery because a curator’s notebook has vanished. The phone provides the story, but every useful clue lives somewhere in the museum.

01
Start with a story

A browser based briefing introduces the mystery without asking the visitor to install an app.

02
Find the real object

The next clue points towards a portrait, case or display already in the gallery.

03
Notice the detail

A date, symbol, material or piece of interpretation supplies information the visitor actually needs.

04
Solve and reveal

The evidence unlocks a puzzle, character response or new part of the story.

05
Move deeper into the museum

The story gives the next gallery or object a reason to matter.

Built around museum spaces

What can become
part of the trail?

The strongest interactive museum experiences use what is already distinctive about the museum rather than laying a generic game over the top.

Objects & artefacts

Turn shape, material, decoration, inscriptions and provenance into evidence visitors need to progress.

Displays & labels

Use existing interpretation selectively when reading it helps solve something rather than becoming a chore.

Rooms & architecture

Doors, windows, ceilings, layouts and architectural details can become discoveries in their own right.

Family trails

Give families a shared purpose as they move around the museum, with choices and challenges they can discuss together.

Temporary exhibitions

Create time limited adventures around a temporary exhibition without rebuilding the core platform.

Learning & groups

Build observation, evidence and interpretation into an experience that can work for school or organised groups.

Use technology where it earns its place

Browser based.
No compulsory gimmicks.

A RÆDEL museum trail can start from a link or QR code and run in a modern mobile browser. QR scanning, the camera, location, touch or other supported phone features can be added when they genuinely improve the experience, but they are not requirements.

01
No app installation

Visitors can begin in the browser without stopping first to visit an app store.

02
Observation first

The museum remains the main interface. The phone should direct attention, not compete with the collection.

03
Optional device features

QR, camera and other capabilities can be selected adventure by adventure.

For museum teams

One platform.
Many reasons to return.

The same museum can support different digital trails for different audiences, exhibitions and times of year while reusing its media, characters and core design system.

Your identity

Use your own branding and artwork

Build an adventure around the museum’s visual identity or create a separate story world for a particular exhibition.

Different audiences

Family, school or general visitor

The route, language, puzzle style and story can be adapted rather than asking one trail to work for everybody.

Reusable content

Build from the same collection differently

An object can support a historical mystery in one adventure and a family observation challenge in another.

Seasonal & temporary

Give visitors another reason to come back

New stories can support temporary exhibitions, holidays, anniversaries and special programming.

Museum trail questions

Useful answers
before you start.

Does an interactive museum trail need QR codes everywhere?

No. QR codes are optional. An adventure can use ordinary browser interactions, observation, questions and puzzles, with QR only at points where scanning creates a useful discovery.

Can a digital museum trail work with our existing interpretation?

Yes. Existing labels, panels and object information can become part of the challenge. The aim is to give visitors a reason to use interpretation rather than duplicate it on another screen.

Can we create different trails for different audiences?

Yes. A museum can support multiple adventures for families, schools, general visitors, events or temporary exhibitions.

Can visitors play together?

Yes. RÆDEL can support solo experiences and team based adventures where a group explores and solves together.

Do visitors have to download an app?

No. RÆDEL is browser based, so visitors can enter an adventure from a link or QR code without installing a dedicated app.

Can we use our own museum artwork and branding?

Yes. The visitor interface, backgrounds, characters and supporting artwork can be designed to belong to the museum or to a particular adventure.
