RÆDEL FAQ.
Practical answers about interactive digital trails, devices, venues, adventure formats and how the visitor experience works.
The useful answers.
Questions tend to fall into a few areas. Pick a topic or browse the grouped answers below.
How visitors begin.
The essentials for opening RÆDEL and understanding the format.
Do visitors need to install an app?
No. RÆDEL adventures run in the visitor's web browser, so an adventure can begin from a QR code or link without requiring an app download.
Does RÆDEL work on iPhone and Android?
RÆDEL is designed for modern mobile browsers on current iPhone and Android devices. Particular device features can still depend on browser support and permissions.
Is RÆDEL a digital trail or treasure hunt platform?
RÆDEL can support digital trails, treasure hunts, story led investigations and other interactive visitor experiences. The format depends on the venue and audience rather than forcing every project into one type of trail.
How long does an adventure take to create?
That depends on the route, amount of original artwork, story complexity and number of challenges. Tell us about the venue and we can discuss a sensible scope rather than applying one arbitrary timescale to every project.
What visitors can do.
Questions about solo play, team play and returning to the story later.
Can visitors play as a team?
Yes. Adventures can support solo play as well as shared team experiences, allowing groups to explore and solve challenges together.
Can one venue have several adventures?
Yes. Different adventures can be created for different audiences, stories, events or seasons within the same venue.
What happens if a visitor leaves and comes back?
Adventures can be designed to resume longer sessions so visitors do not necessarily have to restart simply because the browser was closed or the visit was interrupted.
What the place needs.
Connectivity, outdoor use and how the same venue can host different stories.
Does the venue need guest WiFi?
Not necessarily. Visitors can use their mobile data connection where coverage is available. Venue WiFi can be useful in places with weak mobile reception, but it is not a requirement of the RÆDEL concept itself.
Can RÆDEL work outdoors?
Yes. RÆDEL can be used across parks, gardens, estates, heritage landscapes and other outdoor spaces as well as indoor attractions.
Can adventures change seasonally?
Yes. The same venue can support different adventures for Halloween, Christmas, special events or another season, with new story content, artwork and challenges.
Optional mechanics.
Useful device features can be included where they help the experience.
Can adventures use QR codes?
Yes. QR discoveries can be combined with questions, interactive puzzles, collections, story screens and timed challenges.
Can RÆDEL use phone features such as the camera or movement sensors?
Where the device and browser permit it, an adventure can use supported browser features. The experience should always be designed around the devices visitors are likely to carry.
Does an interactive trail have to use QR codes?
No. QR codes are one optional discovery method. A RÆDEL adventure can also progress through ordinary browser interactions, observation, questions, puzzles, choices or other supported phone capabilities where they genuinely improve the experience.
What your team can make.
Branding, content creation and adapting the platform to the venue.
Can we use our own branding and artwork?
Yes. Adventures can be designed around a venue's own visual identity, media and story world so the visitor experience belongs to the place hosting it.
Can we create our own adventures?
RÆDEL is being built as a reusable adventure platform so venue teams can create and manage adventures using reusable screens, media and challenge components.
Can RÆDEL be used for an interactive museum or heritage trail?
Yes. Museum objects, interpretation, architecture, historic rooms and real events can become part of the route, questions and puzzles. The same approach can be adapted for forts, castles, galleries and other heritage attractions. See how RÆDEL can work as an interactive museum trail.
Ask about your venue.
If the useful answer depends on the place itself, tell us what you are working with.
